Yes sir that goose is packing on the pounds  and Christmas will be here before you know it.  Believe me when I tell you, it is never too early to start planning those family traditions.  Over the next few months, FFC will highlight some of the city’s family friendly offerings you won’t want to miss out on.  Why so early you say?  Because these things tend to fill up and sell out and I don’t want you to miss a moment!

First up?

In December, The Party Source in Bellevue turns in to a winter wonderland of all things holiday and all things yummy.  They host cooking classes celebrating the yuletide season for all ages and I can’t say enough good things about them.

A few highlights our family is really looking forward to -

For the younger children in your brood, the amazing Jay Dickerson wows the masses with his spin on Gingerbread Houses.  We did this last year and had a wonderful time.  There is music and dancing and pizza and snacks.  And you walk away with your own hand-crafted masterpiece – the centerpiece to you holiday table for sure!

Classes are scheduled:  December 7th and December 14th (we’ll be at this one!)

Chef Steve Hellmich, known to all as the wonder that makes Graeter’s chocolates world-famous, will share some of his many secrets in Heavenly Holiday Candies, a make and take, hands-on class.  Opera Creams, Caramels, Butter Toffee, and Truffles…my mouth is watering just typing! The price may seem a little high, but trust me when I tell you that you will walk away with not only the how-to’s of recreating these gems from a master, but also a nice assortment of goodies to take home and “share” (ha). My husband Doug is taking this class as I could never be trusted with those things in my car for the drive home.

Steve’s class is scheduled December 1st and you can find more info here.   I think this class would be a lot of fun for a parent and an older child or teen.  With your make and take goodies, you could easily package a perfect, handmade gift of sweetness for Grandma or that special teacher on your shopping list.

There are plenty of other classes throughout the month for adults too, so check them out!

Great Gifts from the Kitchen: Sweets, Spices, Spirits and Spa! Taught by the delightful Amy Tobin on December 2nd

Make Ahead Holiday Brunch hosted by Pam Walling on December 15th

Many more offerings - like cooking demos and wine tastings perfect for the season - can be found on their December calendar.

Remember: These classes fill up fast, so act today if you are interested!

  1. Any idea what age group the gingerbread house session is suitable for? I’ve got a little girl who’ll be just shy of three then who would love it!

  2. The gingerbread class is perfect for her age – P was only 2.5 last year and had a blast.

  3. We did the Easter class a few months ago and it was awesome. I am sure we’ll do this one too!
