Aussie Football, A Throw Back in Time, The Great PumpkinFest….Too many choices, too little time!

Ahhhh….what’s a family to do when there are so many wonderful upcoming things to do for the weekend?  If you head to my stomping grounds, you can attend the national championships for the United States Australian Football League, also known as “Footy” on Oct. 10-11th.  I didn’t even know Footy existed until I read a recent article in our local newspaper, The Pulse Journal. The best part is that the event is FREE!  There will be 38 teams competing (both men’s and women’s) at Heritage Oak Park in Mason.  The league is also environmentally conscious and if you’d like to make a donation, they are trying to fund wind power for their national championships to “offset their carbon footprint”.  If you’re looking for a game that incorporates football, soccer, volleyball and basketball then this is the event for you.

Now, even though Footy is sure to please the sports fans, I also have to mention that the Blue Ash Heritage Days festival is also taking place on Saturday, Oct. 10th.  I love this festival, my kids love it and so do many history lovers.  Visit the Blue Ash Nature Park and take a step back in time, 1800’s style, and you can enjoy some bluegrass music, the “Any Theme Goes River Boat Circus”, petting zoo, scavenger hunt, goat milking and much more.  The event is also FREE and you’ll want to make sure you get in line early for the free carriage rides to the historic Hunt House where they will have additional entertainment and demonstrations.  There are also some wondeful playgrounds for the kids to enjoy.

With Halloween just around the corner, my last recommendation is all about Halloween fun.  The Great Pumpkin Fest at Keehner Park in West Chester is fantastic.  Get there on Saturday, Oct. 10th at 1:45pm so your kiddos can enter the costume contest at 2pm.  They break the kids up into age groups and they each get a chance to showcase their costume on the amphitheater’s stage.  Don’t forget your cameras. This event is also FREE (can you tell I love free events) and has lots of fun activities – inflatable rides, horse & wagon rides, petting zoo, live pony carousel, games, food and a not so haunted trail.

Now we just have to decide which event to do since we can’t be in three places at one time………oh my!
