Pirates, Pianos and more….

The Fine Arts Fund Sampler weekend is almost here.  On February 20-21, there are going to many free performances throughout Greater Cincinnati.  They’ll have a wide variety of arts to choose from – dance, music, story telling, nature, art and more.  The event is sponsored by Macy’s but there are so many local businesses and art venues participating that you really need to plan out what you want to do.

Near where I live, the Miami University Voice of America Learning Center is hosting two great events.  The first is Pirate Island Madness and this is a live theatre performance geared for kids.  It’ll be held on Saturday from 1-3pm.  “Pirate Island Madness combines two zany pirates, some great island music (think Belafonte and Buffet), beads, a limbo contest and a conga line in an afternoon for the whole family.” (from VOALC) On Sunday, Feb. 21 from 2-4pm, stop by to see the Dueling Pianos with Rod Nimtz and Jeff Smith (both Miami U alums). They’ll be accompanied by singing sensation, Raven Thomas.  You’ll enjoy pop, jazz, gospel and Broadway tunes.  On a personal side, Rod Nimtz is an outstanding piano player – he even played at my wedding (I don’t want to say how many years ago – lol) and I’ve enjoyed seeing him play over the years.

With so many fun things to do this upcoming weekend you’ll definitely have some decisions to make.  The good news is that there is bound to be something to interest everyone.  Enjoy!

  1. We’re def. going to look into taking the boys to a few of the Sampler Weekend events this year. Such a great event… and it’s FREE!
