Well Summer is upon us..the kids are home from school, and the weather is perfect for a day at the park! There’s nothing like taking your kids to a good playground — it’s free, and it’s fun! And there are countless hidden gems out there just waiting for you to discover them!
One of our favorite neighborhood playgrounds is in Ft. Mitchell. The General Ormsby Mitchel Park (which I’ve also heard just called the “Ft. Mitchell Park”) is located just off of the Buttermilk Pike exit of I-75 at 261 Grandview Drive. This park is very close to many restaurants in Crescent Springs (if you don’t have time to pack a picnic).
I love this park because it is surrounded by trees, to provide shade for my baby who isn’t quite old enough to run around at the park yet. The kids love this park because the playground is HUGE, and they have so many things to climb, run, slide and swing on! There are slides of all sizes, for any age, and swings galore. My 3 year old’s favorites are the fire truck & the bulldozer…he loves to pretend he is driving! There are picnic tables located near the playground, and there is also a covered picnic area available for rental. Another thing I enjoy at this park is the porch-style swings for mamas to sit and relax on while their children run and play. There are also soccer fields, sand volleyball and a baseball field at this park. The only thing that is frustrating is the small parking lot. When there are team sports being played at the park it can be tough to find a parking spot. I think there might be a second parking lot further down the road, but that can be complicated for a mama with four kids and a picnic dinner to carry. There are also bathrooms and a water fountain at this park, but the bathrooms are undergoing renovations right now (badly needed renovations in my opinion). Hopefully they will be open again soon, but in the meantime there are porta-potties at the park.

I also have to give a shout out to the Florence fire department who surprisingly showed up at South Fork park yesterday in the fire truck to pass out fire helmets, fire safety coloring books and popcicles! The kids were so excited (moms too). It prompted a fire safety talk at our house that night…complete with testing the doors, crawling through the house, and meeting at the family meeting place. Great job FFD!

Just discovered Flagship Park in Erlanger off Richardson road. Great park w/ lots of shade in the shelterhouse for parents and a large rubber mat playground for the kiddos. Various size play structures to accomodate all ages. Fishing pond closeby too! There is also a nice paved walking path around the park. Good size parking lot as well. Nice, clean bathrooms & water fountain adjacent to the shelter house.
