Homegrown Holiday Recipes from Klosterman Bakery

For many of us (especially those of us who aren’t that great in the kitchen) one of the most stressful things when it comes to the holidays can be what to bring to the family gathering or party.  Today the Klosterman Baking Company, the family-owned bakery based here in Cincinnati, is sharing some of their favorite holiday recipes with us.

Below are two tasty recipes to make this one a homegrown holiday season with your family. Klosterman Baking Company’s baking secrets have been down from generation to generation for nearly 100 year, and now they’re passing them on to our families this holiday season.

Beer Cheese Fondue:
3 rolls of Kraft Nippy Cheese, room temperature

1 stick butter, softened
1/2 cup garlic, minced
1/2 oz bleu or roquefort cheese
1 cup warm beer
1tsp Worcestershire sauce

Combine all ingredients in blender. Hollow out a Klosterman round onion bread into bowl shape. Serve cheese in onion bread bowl—using discarded bread cut into chunks for dipping.

Bread Pudding!

Bread Pudding
2 1/4 cups milk

2 eggs, slightly beaten
2 1/2 cups Klosterman white bread, cubed
1/2 cup brown sugar, loosely packed
1 1/4 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup raisins

Use 8-inch round baking dish or bread loaf pan. Measure bread cubes into baking dish. Mix milk and eggs and pour over bread cubes. Stir in remaining ingredients. Place baking dish inside a larger, shallow pan. Place on oven rack, pour hot water into larger pan, approximately 1-inch deep. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, testing until a knife inserted halfway comes out clean. Can be served warm or cold. A favorite sauce can be served for a topping or it can be topped with cream.

So, we want to know…. what is your favorite recipe when it comes to bringing a dish to holiday gatherings?

JTM — It’s a cheese spread- a good substitute would be a sharp cheddar cheese spread.

One of my favorite things to bring, that is super easy are tomato mozzarella skewers. You take a cherry tomato, a small piece of fresh Mozzarella and you wrap it with Basil, then stick a toothpick through it. Plate it, drizzle with a mixture of oil and Balsamic Vinegar and VOILA! Easy Appetizer.
