Are you ready for the Panerathon Challenge? Do you love to run/walk a 5K? Do you also love to help others? If your answers are yes, the Panerathon 5K is for you. Panera Bread’s 5th annual 5K to Fight Hunger is Sunday September 23rd, 2012 at 9:00 am at the Deerfield Towne Center Panera Bread at 5095 Deerfield Boulevard in Mason. The 5K walk/run starts at 9:00 a.m., and for the kids, an eighth-mile Kohl’s Cares® Kids Fun Run begins at approximately 10:00 a.m. All proceeds benefit Shared Harvest Foodbank, in partnership with Mason Food Pantry.
This is a fantastic event that raised $3,500 for Children’s Hunger Alliance last year. This year they hope to increase attendance and nearly triple the money raised to fight hunger.
“Everyone knows someone – family, friends, neighbors – who have been affected by this struggling economy,” said Tina Osso, Executive Director of Shared Harvest Foodbank. “Every dollar raised at the 2012 Cincinnati Panerathon will help Shared Harvest Foodbank and the Mason Food Pantry provide meals for needy families right here at home, while also providing a fun-filled, family-friendly event for local residents. It just doesn’t get much better than that!”
Race participants will get an event t-shirt, goody bag and timing chip. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. Bring your family because both participants and their families can visit the post-race expo area for entertainment by Q102, prizes and free bagels, pastries and sandwiches from Panera Bread.

Carb loading for the big day? Try Creamy Bowties with Ham and Broccoli. Watch FFC Facebook for recipes!

I’m not a runner, but my husband is! He likes to stay well hydrated, prior to his run and it’s important to replace your fluids after your run!
I “liked” Panera Bread on FB. Can’t believe I haven’t already done this!
Tip for racing: Get plenty of stretching in before you start, eat a nice protein filled breakfast, and stay hydrated with plenty of water!

I think we’ll skip this one, though it sounds like a worthwhile cause. We’re concentrating on the Air Force Marathon at Wright-Pat this weekend. Well, I should say, my husband is. I’m not running. I’ll be on the sidelines blogging about it.

My best racing tip is not to increase your consumption of electrolytes before competition so as to not overload your system.
