We recently got a chance to check out the Lazer Kraze in Mason and had the very best time! Family Friendly Cincinnati’s dad on the scene, Rodney, took his boys and some friends for a night of arcade games, lazer tag missions, trampolines, and fun. Read on for the scoop on all that Lazer Kraze has to offer, then stick around for a great GIVEAWAY!
After a long day of work and school, sometimes we all need an escape to another world. Many enjoy movies and video games for this reason. However, sometimes you might want to do something outside the norm, something that transports you into another world and lets you enjoy some physical activity while you’re at it. We recently had the opportunity to visit the Mason location of Lazer Kraze, and we quickly found that while their name clearly highlights the facility’s main attraction (lazer tag), it’s only a small hint of what they have to offer families looking for some intergalactic entertainment.
The spacious main concourse of the specially-built facility features a snack bar, seating areas for resting between activities, and a full-featured arcade. Neon lights dance across the silver walls and industrial design flourishes transported our family to a space-age fantasy. It feels like something out of a sci-fi flick and definitely sets the mood for the activities within.
The arcade is a blend of newer, state-of-the-art games and classic standbys like skeeball – there really is something for every gamer in the family. Some of the skill-based games produce tickets, which can then be redeemed for toys and other at the prize counter. It’s a great appetizer to the full course meal that Lazer Kraze offers, and an excellent palate cleanser between trampoline and lazer tag sessions.
The cavernous trampoline room features a sectioned floor covered in trampolines, including some angled trampolines against the wall that can be used to bounce off of, rebounding back onto the trampoline floor. You can literally bounce off of the walls! Another smaller area even features basketball hoops, allowing your family to slam dunk in style! Common sense ground rules and plenty of padding on all surfaces ensure that everyone has a great time free from safety concerns. One thing to note – Lazer Kraze does require a waiver be signed before permitting trampoline play, so if you bring your children’s friends be sure to have their parents or guardians sign the waiver online before you arrive.
Our first lazer “mission” commenced not long after we arrived. We were called into the briefing room to learn how to play, and our host, Savannah, did a fantastic job explaining the rules of the game to us. The rules are quite simple and familiar to any who have played lazer tag in the past – shoot enemy players and bases for points and allow for your lazer to recharge after each time you’re tagged. Depending on the size of the group playing, a few different modes of gameplay are available based on team setup, so we got to choose which one we wanted each round. Savannah also explained some rules for conduct to emphasize safety and good sportsmanship, which we greatly appreciated.
Once the game was explained, we were led into the armory to equip our vest and lazers. The equipment was easy to put on and was in great condition – never once did we encounter a malfunction with our gear, and it’s clear that Lazer Kraze takes great care in the maintenance of its equipment. After we suited up based on our team affiliation, we were led into the arena, techno music started to play, and the game was on.
The maze-like arena was a sight to behold. Although it was dark and foggy, it was quite easy to see thanks to the bright neon stripes and flourishes that glowed on every surface. Throughout both of its two large floors, there were plenty of walls and barricades to use as cover, and clever players could find many great spots to hide in. It was well-designed and felt sprawling without ever feeling confusing.
The game itself was a blast! We had a great time breaking off into smaller squads, trying tactics against each other or just roaming around. We played several rounds with several other families, and each game a unique feel. Whether the number of players was small or large, we still had an equal amount of fun. We also loved that we were provided with printed out score sheets after each mission that showed us statistics on how well we did – great fuel for some friendly competitive banter!
Between lazer missions, we also had the opportunity to try out a smaller side-attraction called Time Freak. Unique to the Mason location, it’s like a game of Whack-a-Mole crossed with Simon on a room-sized scale! For a small additional fee, Time Freak places two players into a single room split into color-coded sides, and each side of the room is covered in large buttons. As a timer counts down, the buttons light up in an unpredictable sequence and the object is to rush around the room pressing as many buttons as possible as they light up. Then, in the thrilling finale, the entire room lights up and all buttons can be pressed in a mad scramble for points! We loved the frantic feel of this game and our boys loved the friendly competition it offered. Everyone was winded after trying it out – it’s a physical challenge to be sure!
At the end of the night, we left Lazer Kraze feeling thrilled, delighted… and blissfully exhausted! In our modern world where video games reign supreme, Lazer Kraze offers a fantastic fusion of science fiction thrills and the healthy fun of physical activity. With all of its amenities, side-attractions, and aesthetic touches, it is an extraordinary venue for a long night of family fun.
