The holiday season may be one of the busiest times of year, but it’s also one of the best times for getting out and spending some special quality time with your family. Over the past few years the transformation of the Over-The-Rhine area downtown has been amazing and it has really transformed into a shopping & dining destination. Did you know Over-the_Rhine is now home to more than 60 locally owned businesses ranging from boutiques and galleries to a green grocer, bookstore, coffee shops, theatres, and restaurants?
This year Over-the-Rhine is breaking out the holiday cheer and hosting a series of great, family-friendly holiday activities. Families will find everything from great shopping at stores like Mica 12/v & Park + Vine, to dining options like Venice on Vine and Lavomatic to theatre performances and carolers in the street!
An overview of this year’s planned festivities:
Holidays in the Bag
Head down on Friday, November 25 (Black Friday) for the fourth annual Holidays in the Bag shopping event. Avoid the crazy malls and pick up unique gifts from locally owned businesses. That day, purchase a new, reusable holiday shopping bag at Coffee Emporium on Central Parkway or other retail shops in OTR (Monday, November 21 – Friday, November 25), and when retailers see you have the bag, you’ll get a 20% discount! Proceeds from the sales of the holiday bags benefit the Freestore Foodbank.
December Holiday Festivities
The annual Main Street Stroll & Shop (December 3 – 4) will start the month followed by Caroling in the Quarter and “Wrapped Up” The City Flea (December 10), Light Up OTR (December 16) and Final Friday before Christmas (December 23).
Luminaries on Display
Luminaries will light the way each weekend along Vine Street, 12th Street and Main Street and white lights will be strung from the light posts. The “Segway Santa” and a cycling Santa will also be out and about on the weekends spreading holiday cheer.
See Snow White
FFC advertiser, Ensemble Theater, will premiere Snow White this holiday season, an all new musical based on the classic fairy tale. Runs November 30 – December 31 (stay tuned for more information about the show and for a chance to enter to win tickets!).
So as you can see, there is a TON happening in Over-the-Rhine this season. For more information on all of the events & activities we’ve mentioned head over to the OTR Gateway website for itineraries highlighting new holiday traditions, details on local shopping events, and information about more traditional activities for kids.
Now, the fun part. To help get you started, the good folks at 3CDC have given us a $25 Over-The-Rhine gift card to give away to one lucky Family Friendly Cincinnati reader!
