Today we are excited to welcome Robin Klaene, Public Relations & Development Director with the Kenton County Public Library to the Family Friendly Cincinnati site. Robin is here to talk about the Library’s Summer Reading Program and has offered two fun prizes for giveaway as well!
—————————————————
Ahh summer…I must say it’s my favorite time of year. And any more with my busy schedule of hustling kids here and there during the school year, it’s one of the only times I get the chance to really sit down and read. And this summer, like past summers, I’m telling everyone about the great Summer Reading Club program that the Kenton County Public Library offers.
I must admit, when I start working on the Library’s Summer Reading Club program, I think back to my first experience with summer reading clubs. I was about nine years old. My mom was (and still is) a big library user and we would go all the time. I remember walking up to the librarian and feeling such a great accomplishment with every stamp she gave me on my reading log. I now get to pass on this tradition with my children with our Library’s Summer Reading Club.
The Kenton County Public Library has a great summer planned and has kept people of all ages in mind. Children ages 12 and younger can visit any Library location to pick up a reading log. Once they read five books, they will be able to select a book of their own to keep. Once they read 10 books, they earn their Summer Reading Club T-shirt and a raffle ticket to win a bike. After children read 10 books they can continue reading to earn more raffle tickets. In addition to reading, there are dozens of weekly programs that kids can join.
The Library’s Summer Reading Club for teens is also a lot of fun. The prizes for teens are great this summer as well. For each book, graphic novel, audiobook, magazine or e-book teens read, they will get a raffle ticket. Each Friday this summer one winner per Library branch, three total, will be drawn to win prizes such as $100 gift cards, digital cameras, e-readers, MP3 players and more. And the grand prize is an iPad! Plus, like with the children’s Summer Reading Club, there are a variety of programs teens can participate in based on their interest. Cupcake decorating, a rock band tournament, a NKY Cosplay festival and a fossil hunt are just a few.
I encourage you to check out the Kenton County Public Library’s free Summer Reading Clubs at www.kentonlibrary.org/src and start planning your summer activities today. You never know, your children might be writing about their own library memories someday because of you!As fun as these programs for teens sound, Library staff didn’t forget that adults still like to have fun too! There will be concerts, classes on learning how to save money by stockpiling, knitting and crafting programs, photography classes and more. Plus for every book read, adults can earn a raffle ticket for great prizes as well.
