Today I have a very special Guest Post for you, Ms. Heather Gerker, from Children, Inc. comes to you with a post about an all around great guy…David Kisor. I’m a huge fan of David Kisor, and a huge fan of Children, Inc., and you should be too! Children, Inc. holds a special place in my heart as my first employer post-college and also, my children’s child care provider worked through Children, Inc. at her home. Their mission statement sums up what I love about them:
“We advance the success of young children by partnering with families, professionals and the community through exemplary services, training, research and advocacy. We accomplish our mission within a culture of innovation, collaboration and shared leadership.”
How can you not love & support a business whose sole purpose is to help our young ones succeed in life? For more information about Children, Inc. visit their website. Mr. David Kisor works for Children, Inc. as the Creative Director of Growing Sound, and he’s been making music with and for young children for years. I first came to know him when I worked as a preschool teacher and he would visit my classroom and sing with the kids and even write music with them. It was magic! Since my years in the classroom, we’ve also seen David Kisor performing around town. He’s made several appearances at the Covington Library, and the kids love going to his shows. I hope you enjoy his music as much as we do, here’s a little bit about David Kisor and his music from Heather. Thank you Heather!
Mr. David & Growing Sound {Guest Post by Heather Gerker}
My daughter goes to a Children, Inc. school. So, on a Saturday when I say, “Let’s go see Mr. David.” She smiles and jumps with joy as she knows exactly who Mr. David is.
Mr. David is David Kisor, Creative Director of Growing Sound (Growing Sound is a division of Children, Inc.). He is an accomplished singer, songwriter, composer, performer and teacher who creates music that not only appeals to children’s ears but also to their brains.
Based on the most recent brain research, Kisor and the Growing Sound team create children’s music that promotes social and emotional development in a way that is fun for young children. Each song has a particular purpose and develops a particular part of the child’s brain. From I Can Do It (building confidence) to I Can Count on You (secure attachment), there seems to be a Growing Sound song for all areas of social and emotional development.
“Hey parents, did you know your kids can settle down?” Mr. David asks the crowd that has gathered at Boone County Public Library for a Free Family Concert on Saturday afternoon. He then invites the children to sing (and dance too!) with him as he plays I Can Settle Down, a song written to promote self-control in young children. The boys and girls jump, wiggle, and dance and then calm their bodies as the words of the song encourage them. They are smiling and laughing – you can tell they are having fun.
“Who can tell me what a magpie is?” Another question Mr. David throws out to the crowd. He encourages the children to act us a magpie (it’s a bird!) as he begins to sing, I Am A Magpie, a song written to encourage creativity.
My daughter can’t get enough of Mr. David. Not only does she get to see him once a week (Mr. David visits the Children, Inc. Childcare Centers each week) but she is overjoyed when we attend one of his Family Concerts.
He will be at Beech Acres Park at the end of the month as well as Joseph Beth in Norwood. You can see his complete schedule of concerts here (http://shop.childreninc.org/calendar-of-events.php).
**A Note from Katie S. ~ check out David Kisor singing I Can Do It in this video (below), I love this song!
