Have you been to the Newport Aquarium lately to visit Snowball, Snowflake, Sunshine and Mighty Mike? They sound cute and cuddly, right? Now is the time to visit these cool creatures because during Winter Family Days at the Newport Aquarium (January 7-February 28) kids 12 and under get in FREE (two children get in free with each paying adult).
Snowball and Snowflake are 2 of only 100 white alligators known in the world. You can visit them in the Rainforest exhibit at the Newport Aquarium. Don’t wait too long because they are only at the aquarium until the end of February. Sunshine is an enormous shark ray…check her out during feeding time and see if she, or her friends, can hit the target and grab a bite. It’s fascinating to watch. And, don’t forget about Mighty Mike, the enormous alligator. He weighs in at 800 pounds and measures 14 feet. You can find him in Gator Alley.
We visited the Newport Aquarium over Christmas Break. With three kids, we have to pick and choose activities that are low cost. Thanks to Winter Family Days, we’ll be heading back for another visit soon. The kids loved it and we spent the afternoon petting sharks and sea stars, watching the shark rays eat, perusing the jellyfish gallery and stopping to play at the indoor playground at Frog Bog. It was a freezing cold snowy day, but inside the Newport Aquarium, it is a comfortable 74 degrees. Now, that’s a great way to stay warm!
Winter Family Days at the Newport Aquarium are January 7 – February 28. Tickets can be purchased at the Newport Aquarium, online or by phone. The Aquarium will open one hour earlier (9 am) on Saturdays & Holiday Weekends through the end of February. Visit the Newport Aquarium Website for all of the details.
