Our calendars are already marked for Books by the Banks on Saturday, October 11. We’re especially excited to stop by the booth of FFC sponsor blue manatee press. The authors and illustrators will be at the table from 10am – 4pm to talk about their old books, new books, and what’s coming up next.
If you haven’t seen their fall 2014 list, be sure to check it out. The list includes books by favorite blue manatee press authors and illustrators including Dr. John Hutton, Leah Busch, Kelli Gleiner, Sandra Gross, and Sarah Jones, as well as newcomers Maria Montag and well-known artist Casey Riordan Millard. All of the books from blue manatee press have fun story lines, and great illustrations – A Day with Monster uses pictures of hand felted monsters!
If you have kids who wonder what it takes to illustrate a book, the illustrators will have sketchpads and art supplies for demonstrations. The authors and illustrators will take turns at the blue manatee press table throughout the event.
10am – 12pm: Kelli Gleiner (A Day with Monster) and Leah Busch (Toast to Baby Series, Your Red Shoes, Calm Baby Gently) 12pm – 2pm: Maria Montag (Sherm the Germ) and Dr. John Hutton (Baby Unplugged Series, Calm Baby Gently, Sherm the Germ, Sleepy Bee)
2pm – 4pm: Sarah Jones (Orange Triangle Fox, Bunnies Near and Far, Play) and Casey Riordan Millard (Shark Girl and Belly Button)

If you’re more interested in food and cocktails, Daniel Wright will have his book Senate | Sweet and Savory, and Molly Wellman will be there talking about her book of hand crafted cocktails.
This year, the Kids’ Corner has been expanded to make even more room for balloon sculptures, face painting and more. For the first time ever, the festival has added a Teen Area where young booklovers can play board games with some of their favorite authors, hear a live musical performance by local band Spearpoint and check out equipment demonstrations by the Hive13 Makerspace.
Make it an all-day affair by sticking around after the festival and enjoying dinner at one of several participating restaurants offering a discount with the presentation of a Books by the Banks event program.
