We here at Family Friendly Cincinnati think it’s pretty cool when you can meet the author of your favorite book — just making the connection between the imaginative story and mind that created it can be a fantastic experience, especially for young readers. If you get the chance to do so, we highly recommend it. And if you get the chance to meet the author and do some good in the world at the same time? More the better.
Local author, Kristin Brooks, has just published her first children’s book titled ‘Wyatt and The King’. Here’s a little about the book:
Wyatt And The King tells the story of a puppy named Wyatt. Wyatt and his brother and sisters sing, dance, and celebrate the life and music of Elvis. Wyatt discovers what it truly means to be “The King of Rock and Roll.”
“My goal is to help inspire a new generation of Elvis fans. This is my gift to Elvis for everything he gave the world and his fans.
In his honor, we will be donating a portion of sales to organizations and charities, with a focus on dog/animal rescue organizations and children’s charities. We hope to create awareness to the enormous need for dog rescue, adoption, and spay and neuter. Also, we hope to help break negative stereotypes associated with specific dog breeds.”
Going to be honest with you — I grew up loving Elvis. I very clearly recall listening to one of his greatest hit LPs (that’s a long playing record for you youngin’s) on my Winnie the Pooh record player in my Granny’s spare bedroom, watching Blue Hawaii and Jailhouse Rock on the big console television, and dancing like a fool when I thought no one was watching if one of his songs came on the radio. I do love me some Elvis. But that’s only half of why this book is amazing.
It’s also a story of rescue dogs, a cause close to my heart. Kristin Brooks, the creative mind behind the story of Wyatt and The King, has a passion for saving the lives of rescue animals. When given the opportunity to tell the story of Elvis to a new generation of fans, and bring awareness to the plight of the shelter dog, she jumped at the chance.
To that end, Ms. Brooks and Chik-fil-A on Houston Road in Florence are hosting a fundraiser this evening from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Ms. Brooks will be selling and signing copies of Wyatt and The King, and $5 from every book purchased will be donated to Rescue Friends of Pendleton County Animal Shelter to help improve the lives of the animals rescued in her hometown of Falmouth, Kentucky. Even more, Chick-fil-A will be donating 10% of sales from the hours of 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM to the same cause!
This is a great opportunity to do many things at once: Enjoy a delicious dinner (that you don’t have to cook or clean up), support a talented young local author, introduce your children to a wonderful new children’s story, and support a worthy cause – saving the lives of animals!
