Fall has finally arrived in the tri-state — brightly colored and falling leaves, chilly and drizzly weather, football, Halloween costumes, trick or treaters and…..pumpkins! Carved pumpkins, painted pumpkins, pumpkin spiced lattes and muffins – and not one of them can hold a candle to the tastiest and best-known pumpkin of all: Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie!
If you are like me, and grew up in this area, then chances are you’ve eaten your fair share of Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie over the years. Frisch’s has been a part of my life from as far back as I can remember. My uncle used to let me choose which of his cool cars I wanted to ride in, and he would take me to Frisch’s for dinner (way, way, way) back when I was only four years old. It’s comfort food. My oldest son is a complete Frisch’s grilled cheese sandwich addict. It’s the benchmark that all other grilled cheese sandwiches are judged by. My youngest? He’s a chili dude. Frisch’s Chili Spaghetti – with cheese, of course – is his addiction. We all have our favorites…favorite entree, favorite beverage, and favorite pie.
Now, let me set the stage by saying that very few Pumpkin Pies can hold a candle to my Granny’s Pumpkin Pie. My mom has got second place, only because she, of course, learned her skills from my grandmother. Let’s just say that you have to get up pretty early in the morning to make a pie good enough to pass the test with me. Well, it just so happens that Frisch’s gets up pretty darn early in the morning.
Frisch’s Big Boy has been baking pumpkin pie from the same closely guarded secret recipe and the best-available, highest-quality ingredients for over 50 years. Famous for the flaky, handmade pastry crust, creamy 100% pure pumpkin filling and the perfect balance of special spices, Frisch’s pumpkin pie is a dessert worthy of your Thanksgiving table or a weeknight treat.
I got a chance to go “behind the scenes” to see how they make this delicious, seasonal treat and found that just as they claim – it’s made from the freshest ingredients, just like you would at home, but on a MUCH larger scale! When I say larger, I mean that a total of 160,00 pies will be made for the Thanksgiving season and more than 900,000 slices of pie are served each year! Can you imagine? Check out some pics of my tour:
It was an amazing day! Besides the pie making process, I also got to check out the onion room (and WOO was it onion-y!), the soup room (BIG vats of made in house soup), and so much more. I love knowing that all of the food we order at Frisch’s is created in one place, which means consistency – no matter which of the 120 locations of Frisch’s that you decide to dine at, you’ll receive the same high-quality meal. And they even have their own truck fleet, so their delicious food items are always being tended to by a Frisch’s employee. The employees we met while on our tour were wonderful and most have been working there for many years. That’s loyalty!
Right now, you can nominate someone to receive a creamy, delicious, amazing Frisch’s Pumpkin Pie for FREE! That’s right! Know someone deserving of a special “Thank you” for going out of their way to help, or going the extra mile to make sure that someone else is happy, or someone who just needs to know that they are appreciated? Nominate them to win a FREE pie! Here’s a little about the promotion from Frisch’s:
Do you know someone who deserves a little extra recognition? Frisch’s Big Boy wants to reward people with one of their FREE award-winning pumpkin pies! Did a grocery store employee go the extra mile and help you to your car with heavy groceries? Did your son’s teacher stay after school to help him understand his math homework? Who do you know that has earned recognition? Nominate them to win a pumpkin pie today on Frisch’s Facebook page. It only takes a minute! From October 19 to November 21, 2015, five winners will be selected each week.
How amazing is that?! We all know someone who really deserves to be shown how much their extra effort matters…and that they DO in fact make a difference in the lives of others, in big ways and small. This is the perfect way to say Thank you and show them some love!
